Doughnut Sandwiches: Yea or Nay?

October 9, 2009 2:25 pm · Posted by nancyeinhart

How many different ways can you make doughnut sandwich? At least nine, according to this roundup from Woman's Day. Paula Deen gained infamy for her Krispy Kreme bacon cheeseburger (pictured), but doughnuts have also been used to make chicken sandwiches, ice cream sandwiches, and, hilariously, veggie burgers. I like doughnuts, and I like sandwiches, but I prefer to keep them separate. How about you?

Eww, the only thing that belongs in a doughnut sandwich . . . is another doughnut.

when i saw the title of this post i said Hell yah! then i saw the pic and said no way (although you know i'd try to eat it anyway, i just dont' think i'd like it).

however, if it was a dessert burger like hubert keller's (donuts chocolate as "burger" mint as lettuce, strawberry as tomato, etc.) then we would be in business.

it's like the speedball of the food world!

i think it's easy to make an argument for doughnut sandwiches. doughnuts are, at their base, fried breads that have been sweetened/glazed/etc. sweet sandwiches, such as pb&j have been popular for a long time. contrasting the sweet/savory is a logical leap with the use of the doughnut as a vehicle.

full disclosure: as much as I want a krispy kreme bacon cheddar burger (with or without an egg), I have yet to eat one.

Love it! What about a chocolate glazed doughnut with flank steak, crumbled blue cheese, dipped in a warm pear chutney... on the side??
