Have You Ever Snuck a Sandwich Into the Movies?

January 26, 2010 11:10 am ยท Posted by Nancy Einhart

I'll admit, it was one of my most psycho food moments. Because I love sandwiches and hate wasting food, I once sneaked half a sandwich, leftover from the previous night's dinner, into a movie matinee. Andrew made fun of me, and I couldn't blame him.

I've been known to stop by 'Wichcraft before movies at the Westfield mall, though I spare my fellow moviegoers by not ordering the anchovy. Epicurious's post about sneaking snacks into the movies got me thinking: has anyone else ever sneaked a sandwich into a movie theater?

I am so cheap, I totally have my wife get her giganto purse with the bottomless pit inside of it and sneak food in on occasion. :P Not full on meals in Tupperware or anything like that. But a sandwich or snack food, absolutely. Theaters don't make their profits on the ticket sales, but on the sales from the concession stands. They have the most inflated rates EVER! No way I am wasting money of that crap, when I can bring a bottle of the soda I want as apposed to their limited choices and the food I want. Yes, Yes... neck, ghetto, however you wish to label my uncouth behavior is fine by me. My wallet thanks me and that is who I truly love in this world. :P

Years ago I had a Saturday matinee ritual in Oakland. First, I'd stop by Ratto's in Oakland (and if you haven't gotten a sandwich there yet, I have to take you! It is amazing!). I'd usually order the pastrami on dutch crunch with all the fixings, and hen me and my sandwich would go to back-to-back matinees down the street at Jack London. Those were divine, lazy, sandwichy fun days.

I pretty much bring a sandwich or a burrito to every movie I see.

I used to keep it to twizzlers or reese's pieces, but Nancy has convinced me to be a little more free and loose with the kind of food I will sneak into the theater. The one time i got caught, though, was pretty embarrassing. I guess roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy is a BIG no-no. Who knew?

So sayeth The Andrew

I can't imagine trying to eat an Estela's sandwich in a movie. I admire that.
