Sandwich Share: Bocadillo Jamón y Queso

My friend Hunter was wise enough to marry an awesome Spanish woman and nice enough to share the sandwich he's eating this summer in Spain. As he explains, "Summer in Spain means beaches and bocadillos. At any of the bars or beachside chiringuitos, you're sure to find some variation of this classic Spanish sandwich."

The simple sandwich highlights two of Spain's most famous homegrown ingredients: Iberian ham and creamy, cured Flor de Esgueva Manchego cheese, which Hunter calls the Bentley of Manchegos.

Hunter's variation on the classic includes jamón Iberico, Manchego cheese, and sliced tomato on crusty table bread with a drizzle of olive oil: "Add some olives stuffed with anchovy, some potato chips, a beer, and you've got heaven."

I had the pleasure of tasting genuine jamón Iberico when I was in Spain, and it was truly one of the most delicious things I've ever put in my mouth. So I'm pretty damn envious of this bocadillo. Have you tried Iberian ham?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this sandwich. It is one of my favorites. I like it best the catalan way - with olive oil, salt, and rubbed tomato on each side of the bread.
