Sandwich Share: A Perfect Muffuletta Match

June 16, 2012 10:03 am · Posted by nancyeinhart

No sandwich inspires me like a muffuletta. But finding an authentic version (like the one from Central Grocery, pictured on my website header) outside of New Orleans is nearly impossible.

Unti now! My friend Anna recently ate this muffuletta at San Francisco's Boxing Room, and from what I can tell, this place totally nailed it. Based on my experiences with hush puppies and New Orleans-style barbecue shrimp at Boxing Room, this restaurant knows what it's doing.

Sandwich Share: Dar es Salaam's Greatest Sandwich

April 30, 2011 10:44 am · Posted by Nancy Einhart

After a monthlong sandwich blogging hiatus, I needed some inspiration to get back in the swing of things, and what should arrive in my inbox but the most exotic sandwich share we've seen on Between the Bread. This sandwich, ordered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, comes from my friend Hunter, who also shared this delicious Spanish sandwich.

Here's what he had to say:

"While the clumsily named 'Honey Soy Glazed Steak with Mango Chili Salsa Sandwich' may belabor the ingredient list, it also belies the tastiness of Dar es Salaam's greatest sandwich.

Here's how it goes down: A very simple quasi 'ciabatta' bread envelopes an adequate yet modest slice of marinated steak, lettuce and humble (yet no doubt expensive, imported) crumble of cheddar cheese. Left to itself, this is a ho-hummer, but the mango salsa — a sweet and sour explosion of candied onion shreds and mango cubes — elevates the sandwich to heretofore unimagined heights in this humid, coastal, African city by the sea.

The sandwich was begging to be shared . . . who knows when one of your readers might find themselves peckish in Dar, and think: To the Black Tomato! Gotta get me a sandwich!"

Got that, readers? File away for your next trip to Tanzania! Now, share your own sandwiches by emailing a photo and a description of your sandwich to nancy@betweenthebreadblog.com.

I'm planning to make an epic Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich for dinner tonight, but until then, let's look to Anna for inspiration. She shared this very serious sandwich of leftover turkey, mashed potatoes, homemade cranberry sauce, and a recent revelation: veganaise.

What leftovers sandwiches have you made this Thanksgiving? Tell me in the comments or, better yet, take a photo and email it with a description of your sandwich to nancy@betweenthebreadblog.com.

Sandwich Share: Crazy With Crab Cakes

Melt Bar and Grilled is definitely on my sand wish list, as long as I don't have to order the 13-cheese "Melt challenge." My friend Joy, a Cleveland native, counts Melt among her hometown favorites and recently shared thisdisgusting but delicious gourmet grilled cheese specimen.

Served on Texas toast, the Northcoast Shores features crab cakes, garlic spinach, roasted red pepper, and herb cream cheese. Why, yes, I would take that challenge. How about you?

Sandwich Share: Caprese di Mercury

Going through my emails looking for another sandwich photo, I came upon this submission from earlier in the month. At the Mercury Cafe in San Francisco, my friend Katie endorsed this caprese creation on an Acme baguette. Says Katie: a "generous serving of fresh mozz. It's a solid."
