Though the idea of a banana and Vegemite sandwich didn't go over so well with my palate, I decided to try again with the last heirloom tomatoes of the season.

Since fresh salted tomatoes, simply combined with lettuce, cheese, and good bread, make a great sandwich, I figured the salty Vegemite could stand in for the seasoning. With thick aged white cheddar, the combo may not be purely Aussie, but it worked for me, and the condiment is slowly growing on me, if not inciting a long-dormant passion.

Venturing Into Vegemite
Sandwich Share: Caprese di Mercury
Going through my emails looking for another sandwich photo, I came upon this submission from earlier in the month. At the Mercury Cafe in San Francisco, my friend Katie endorsed this caprese creation on an Acme baguette. Says Katie: a "generous serving of fresh mozz. It's a solid."
Sandwich Share: Grilled Cheese at Haagen-Dazs
Who knew Haagen-Dazs even served sandwiches? My mom discovered this on her recent jaunt around New Mexico. Like my roasted veggie sandwich at the Guinness Storehouse, this grilled cheese was consumed for mere sustenance but surprisingly delectable.

She says, "The sandwich was a swiss and tomato (grilled) at Haagen-Dazs in Sante Fe. We were pressed for time due to shopping, but it was delish."
